Personal Statement

In my hospital practice years, I rotated through almost every Medical Staff Position for at least a year, but spent three years as Chairman of the Department of Family Practice, with at least five rotations over the years in Quality Control positions. In addition I have been elected or appointed to several postions within the Colorado Medical Society, and have been very active in medical “Politics”—of the kind that strive to better the quality of medicine. I have been either a delegate or an alternate to the Colorado Medical Society from the Boulder County Medical Society for almost as many years as I have been a member, and I move easily among the various levels of staff and elected officials. I have volunteered for many years to be a frequent representative as “Doctor of the Day” to our State Legislature on behalf of the Colorado Academy of Family Practice, and always enjoyed speaking to students in my children’s schools about medically-related topics.

I enjoy public speaking, and have even done television and radio spots forMedical groups with which I have been affiliated. As an early member of the Society for Computer Applications in Medical Care (SCAMC), I introduced the first paperless Medical system in the state of Colorado (which is still working well), and have carefully maintained my knowledge of the use of digital data in medicine, focused mostly on the Electronic Medical Record. My typing skills, like my handwriting, are unfortunately the project of my Medical School training!

At this time (my doctors say) (and I feel), I am good health. I enjoy talking to people from all walks of life. Aside from riding my bike all over Boulder, my favorite way of relaxing and relieving the tensions of the day is singing with the Boulder Timberliners, one of the original BARBERSHOP choruses in the nation.
